(Miami, FL, May 4, 2022) – The Florida Basketball Association (FBA) announced today it has awarded an expansion team to Miami that will begin play during the 2023 FBA season. Ownership belongs to The Fans Together (TFT), a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) that gives fans an ownership stake in professional sports teams throughout the world.

A press conference will be set in the coming weeks to introduce the new team after the fans vote on the team name, colors, and other items that accentuate the power and engagement of TFT’s fan ownership model.

“This is our first foray into the United States and we believe American fans will love it just as much as their European counterparts,” said Simon Wentworth, TFT Director. “We give sports fans the opportunity to engage with TFT-owned sports franchises worldwide – and even possess actual decision-making capabilities. We chose the FBA to be our first United States purchase because of the league’s longevity and quality of play. And what better place to have a team than in beautiful South Florida? This is a wonderful new addition to our portfolio, and we’re grateful to Mark King (FBA Owner) and Greg Kite (FBA Commissioner) for seeing our vision and selecting us.”

“Miami is certainly a very desirable market. We sought the right ownership group for a team in the city, and we’ve found it in The Fans Together,” said Kite, a two-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics in the 1980s. “Throughout the interview process, it became increasingly clear that TFT brings a great deal of value to our league.”

King agrees. “There’s a whole lot to like about TFT. They already own a number of successful franchises around the world, and we’re thrilled to help them bring their proven business platform to the United States. We have already built a strong relationship with them and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

The FBA is a Florida-based professional basketball league providing a development, branding and exposure platform for athletes, referees and other individuals seeking to enhance their professional basketball careers.
